The team reinventing the auto-injector for the volume, cost, and sustainability demands of the next twenty years.
Today's auto-injectors were designed for the drug pipeline of twenty years ago. Demand for a single injectable programme was measured in hundreds of thousands of devices, and the device itself could carry a relatively high unit cost. The market has changed beyond recognition. The shift to patient self-administration, epitomised by the growth in GLP-1s, have pushed global auto-injector demand past a billion units a year, on track to more than double to 2 billion devices a year by 2030.
The incumbent devices are complicated to manufacture and assemble. As single use devices, most geographies mandate that spent devices must be treated as clinical waste and sent to incineration creating a rapidly growing sustainability burden. None of the existing devices have been specifically designed to be simple, scalable and sustainable without incurring a green premium.
Eco-Inject took the decision to take the design of an autoinjector back to first principles: what does the device actually need to do, and what is the simplest way to do it reliably, sustainably and with very high volume manufacture in mind. The answer was a device with five moulded components instead of eight to fourteen, made from bio-based polymers, and designed for manufacture and automated assembly at very high volume.

If you are evaluating Eco-Inject for your use case, we can share further details.
Eco-Inject is a Cambridge, UK based company developing a sustainable autoinjector platform for pharmaceutical drug delivery. It has developed a two-step, single-use auto-injector made from bio-based polymers, and is current taking the device into commercial production.
Current devices have not been developed from first principles to be the sustainable, scalable and affordable devices that the market is demanding. Eco-Inject reinvented the autoinjector to be sustainable without a change to patient behaviour or a green premium, massively scalable through a simple design, and a single platform that can be used across a wide range of fill volumes and viscosities.
Eco-Inject is a UK company based in Cambridge, our first manufacturing partner is based in Europe.
West Pharmaceutical Services, a global supplier of injectable drug delivery and containment systems, is the contract manufacturer. Eco-Inject is the legal manufacturer of the device.
