The innovative Eco-Inject platform transforms the traditional single-use autoinjector by drawing on a 'first principles' design approach, reducing the entire architecture to just five 100% bio-based polymer moulded parts. It offers drop-in compatibility for both standard 1 mL and 2.25 mL pre-filled syringes (PFS) in a single device configuration. The patented design achieves significant kg CO2e per-device reductions without compromising human factors or intuitive two-step usability.
As a company dedicated to uncompromising Design for Sustainability (DfS), Eco-Inject sees architectural simplicity as a key factor in making it commercially viable for pharma partners to meet 2030 Net-Zero targets. Matthew White, CEO, stated: "Winning this award is another step on our journey towards delivering a truly sustainable autoinjector. We believe that eliminating device complexity helps pharmaceutical companies achieve their 2030 Net-Zero Targets alongside addressing scalability challenges and without incurring a green premium. Importantly our device integrates into existing fill-finish infrastructure and patient behaviours. This award confirms that our vision for a scalable, sustainable device is on track."
The internationally recognised Red Dot Award: Design Concept was established in 2005, it serves as a reliable and professional benchmark for design excellence, identifying concepts before they become tomorrow’s leading products. The award celebrates the forward-thinking minds from around the world that push boundaries and offer a glimpse into the future of how we might live and experience the world.
Winning the Red Dot allows the Eco-Inject platform to gain access to a global audience through the Red Dot travelling exhibition, media features, and industry networks, positioning the device as the ultimate scalable solution for sustainable autoinjector devices.
"Receiving the Red Dot Award is a tremendous honour, as it is one of the most prestigious accolades for device design in our industry," said Steven Kaufman, Chief Strategy Officer. "The Eco-Inject autoinjector not only advances sustainability but also addresses a critical market need for simple, next-generation drug delivery technologies. A key advantage of this design is its versatility, allowing it to accommodate either a 1 mL or 2.25 mL pre-filled syringe within the same device footprint. We are looking to initiate feasibility studies with interested biotechnology and pharmaceutical partners, and we remain on track for high-volume clinical and commercial production by the end of the year."
About Eco-Inject
Eco-Inject is a UK-based medical device company reinventing the autoinjector from first principles. Founded by industry veteran John Palmer-Felgate, the company has reduced the autoinjector to five moulded bio-based polymer components - eliminating complexity while achieving significant kg CO2e per-device carbon reduction at cost parity. The Red Dot Award 2026 winning platform maintains full compatibility with both 1 mL and 2.25 mL pre-filled syringes across varying viscosities and fill volumes. Eco-Inject makes sustainability the default, enabling pharma partners to adopt sustainable drug delivery without changes to fill-finish processes, supply chains, or patient training. Cost parity meets carbon reduction. For more information visit www.eco-inject.com.
